Following a vocal warm-up, teaching begins at 9.30am and your one-class-per-day of attendance will be timetabled at any point throughout the teaching day which finishes at 6pm. A morning and afternoon break are scheduled with refreshments provided in the Library. There will also be morning and afternoon drop-in sessions for singers and pianists, providing an opportunity to run through music with a coach before scheduled classes. There are many opportunities to tailor the course to suit your own requirements and you’ll usually be involved in one or more of your chosen classes every day.
This year we will continue our popular series of talks in the Library between 1.50pm – 2.30pm. Topics have included breathing, performance nerves, Italian phonetics, E.F.T. and writing an effective singers’ CV. Details of talks and workshops for 2017 will be announced later in the year. At 4pm each day a practice room booking sheet is put on the Music School notice board to book rooms for the following day.
This year we are also launching the 4.20 Concert Series. These informal concerts will take place in the Colin Thomson Hall between 4.20pm – 5pm everyday (with the exception of Friday), providing a more relaxed performance setting during the course for those who don’t wish to sing during the evening concerts.
Each day tutors recommend students to perform in one the evening concerts and the list of performers is put on the Music School notice board by 5pm each day. All participants are encouraged to perform at least one of the evening concerts which start at 7.30pm. Prior to each evening concert there will be a bar outside the Music School and afterwards in the Colin Thomson Hall to wind down at the end of the day. As you can see below, the days are quite busy with lots going on.
