Following a vocal warm-up in the Colin Thomson Hall, teaching begins at 9.30am and your one-class-per-day of attendance will be timetabled at any point throughout the teaching day which finishes at 6pm. A morning and afternoon break are scheduled with refreshments provided in the Library. There will also be morning and afternoon drop-in sessions for singers and pianists, providing an opportunity to run through music with a coach before scheduled classes. There are many opportunities to tailor the course to suit your own requirements and you’ll usually be involved in one or more of your chosen classes every day.
This year we will introduce a new Lunchtime series where tutors will demonstrate their teaching technique/specialism in a mock lesson with a bursary holder. All staff and students are encouraged to observe before afternoon teaching begins and there will be an opportunity for audience questions towards the end of the session. Specialist areas will include Acting for Singers, Sung Italian, French Song, Russian Song and Opera Coaching. Drop in sessions will also be offered throughout the week covering the basics or writing an effective performer’s CV.
At 4pm each day a practice room booking sheet is put on the Music School notice board to book rooms for the following day. This year we are also continuing the 4.15 Informal Concerts. These informal concerts will take place in the Colin Thomson Hall between 4.15pm – 5pm (with the exception of Sunday and Friday), providing a more relaxed performance setting during the course.
Tutors also recommend students to perform in one of the evening concerts and the list of performers is put on the Music School notice board by 5pm each day. All participants are encouraged to perform at least one of the evening concerts which start at 7.30pm in the Concert Hall. Prior to each evening concert there will be a bar outside the Music School and afterwards in the Colin Thomson Hall to wind down at the end of the day. As you can see below, the days are quite busy with lots going on.
