Lorna Anderson was born in Glasgow and studied at the RSAMD with Patricia MacMahon and at the RCM. She has appeared in opera, concert and recital with major orchestras and chamber groups at festivals and concert halls throughout Europe and elsewhere, including The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The Academy of Ancient Music, The King's Consort and the English Concert.
Her numerous recordings include 'Messiah', Purcell's The Fairy Queen, Haydn Masses with Richard Hickox and, for Hyperion, she has recorded Britten Folksong settings with Malcolm Martineau, Handel's L'Allegro with The King's Consort and is part of Hyperion’s complete Schubert Edition. In addition, she has recorded Haydn's complete Folksong Arrangements with Haydn Trio Eisenstadt to celebrate Haydn's bicentenary in 2009 and also a new work by James MacMillan, commissioned to mark the same occasion. Two new recordings of Poulenc songs have just been released and a CD of Debussy songs was recently recorded for Hyperion and is due for release in April 2012, both accompanied by Malcolm Martineau.
Lorna has recently returned from singing Handel and Bach in Sweden and the Canary Islands and is looking forward to singing Dido in 'Dido and Aeneas' in Lisbon and the Mozart Requiem in Spain as well as performances of works by composers as diverse as Lawes and Elgar in the UK.
Lorna has always enjoyed teaching and teaches regularly near her home as well as at the Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff. In addition, she has been involved in assessing students for scholarship awards and as an outside assessor for final recital exams at GSMD and has given numerous masterclasses both in the UK and abroad.
